recorded in 2019-2020 using highly transformed field recordings (from hydrophones, contact microphones, and traditional microphones) and digital sounds from laptop and software. intentionally mastered at a low volume to encourage quiet playback and deep listening on headphones, the audio maps a surreal landscape utilizing a variety of sonic pallets – sometimes silent or near-silent and at other times more pronounced – to form an ambiguous audio collage, an inner sound landscape.
the title refers to the somewhat absurd nature of trying to put words on a particular sound or piece of music whereas the true “description of a sound” can only accurately lie in the individual perception of the sound at the moment of listening. words can only hint at a very small portion of the overall characteristics of a sound. forewords can be useful for setting a tone or providing context, but the story can only be delivered through the individual’s participation and experience in reading the pages cover to cover.
***please note that due to the subtle nature of this recording headphones or conventional speakers are necessary to hear the full range of frequencies. laptop, bluetooth, and other such speakers will result in mostly inaudible sound.***
